21st of June was the day in which Andrzej Sapkowski, author of the series of both short stories and novels about the witcher Geralt of Rivia, celebrated his 70th birthday. Since he hails from Łódź, the local government decided to honor him and his creations by renaming the “Paris Commune Square” to “The Square of The Witcher”. The final decision about this case will be given by the city authorities at the beginning of July during the deliberations of the city councilors.
This is one of these very rare occurrences of fantasy being noticed in Poland, and not being treated as mere children tales, but also as a staple point, a masterpiece, of pop culture. It’s a great and important step towards spreading our interest to a bigger audience, allowing us to be able to approach someone “non-fandom”, able to show and explain exactly what is going on in these circles. Of course, there is no better way to indoctrinate someone into the fantasy fandom than recommending him “The Witcher” - a beloved and highly internationally popular franchise that spread from books to games, and to the soon to come Netflix Original Series.
It’s such a shame though that there were no propositions to name the square “The Square of Geralt of Rivia”, but, really, we can’t have everything at once, can we?
Do you know any streets, squares or other places that are connected to fantasy?
Until recently, Pyrkon was the biggest pop culture oriented event in our country. The previous edition gathered close to 44 thousand participants, which was set as another record in the history of this convention. This year the festival experienced a minimal drop in the numbers, bringing in 43 thousand fans of fantasy, cosplay, comics or video games. Why the lower amount of participants? What did Pyrkon surprise us with this time? And, most importantly, should you attend the next edition, on 26-28th of April 2019? Read on to find out!
If you heard about the changes in the regulations for the use of accommodation on the premises of Pyrkon, do not worry – the rules remain the same, save for small details. Regulations have never been formalized into one document, that is why, along with its public appearance on the Pyrkonowicze group, we decided to present you its content.
It's been barely hours since the third edition of Warsaw Comic-Con ended. The helpers are currently cleaning the Expo halls, helping the leaving guests, taking apart the workstations that have been so overused during these last three days, and, all in all, making sure that the third edition of this pop culture adventure comes to a safe and satisfying close. Where one thing ends, the another begins, and so as of today we have an official date set for the fourth edition of Warsaw Comic Con!
The previously mentioned convention will take place from 26.10.2018 to 28.10.2018, and, as of right now, nothing seems to say that the event will be changing its location anytime soon - come in October, we will be walking in the familiar halls of the Ptak Warsaw Expo.
There is a bit of confusion being caused by the official event page that went live on Facebook a moment ago. According to the information published there, the convention would be supposed to start on 25th. However, our editorial team is sure that they have received correct info on the happening's beginning date, and it is confirmed by both the official announcement and the graphic, published below.
In the light of these revelations, we suggest you all to start looking into free weekends, rescheduling the mandatory family visits and taking sick leaves, because, with all our hearts, we hope to see you this fall in Nadarzyn!
The countdown to Pyrkon 2018 has already begun, which means we've got good news for you. The full schedule of this year's edition was published yesterday evening! There will be a lot of various activities - meetings with authors and actors, panels, contests, LARPs and much more.
Just like the previous year, you can plan your own, personal schedule on the convention's website. The booking of the seats for some of the panels will begin in a week, on the 23th of April. Only people that had already bought their tickets can book the seats - the code for the reservations is placed on the tickets.
